Dry brushing seems to be the latest health craze (just take a look on your Instagram feed). While the technique has been around for centuries (it’s the oldest body care trick in the book — quite literally!), its recent resurgence can be attributed to newfound celebrity and influencer raves — and skincare companies creating and promoting products to appease the demand. But what exactly does dry brushing do" Good question.

Joanna Vargas: I love dry brushing: it?s my favorite method of body exfoliation because it is multi-tasking, and I recommend it all the time. The stimulation of the lymphatic system is true, and it’s your lymphatic system that really helps move out toxins and bring in good nutrients to every cell in the body. Dry brushing also increases elasticity and lifts your trouble spots like the butt and back of the thighs. BB: How does it work"
JV: Dry brushing increases blood flow, which is healthy, but its main purpose is to stimulate collagen production which will help to thicken the skin and lessen the appearance of fat cells.
