Justin and I managed to squeeze in a long weekend away at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island in South Carolina in May. It was just around the time of our 14-year wedding anniversary, so the timing felt special!

I’ve always heard great things about The Sanctuary, but neither of us had ever been to the resort, let alone Kiawah Island. The closest place we’ve vacationed at is the Isle of Palms when we stayed at the Sweetgrass Inn — which I would highly recommend especially if you’re looking for a kid-friendly spot!

We chose The Sanctuary for a restful retreat, something with a slow pace that offered outdoor activities and leisure, but also had a few great restaurants to choose from as well. Kiawah is known as a top golfing destination, and even though Justin loves to play golf he didn’t play due to how quick this trip was.
We arrived on Thursday night and after dropping our stuff in our room, we headed out to the Ryder Cup Bar, which is in the clubhouse of the Ocean Course, one of the hardest golf courses in the country. We watched a few foursomes play through while we waited for our table and then enjoyed a delicious meal while watching the sunset.

Over the course of the next two days, we did a lot of biking, walking, and enjoyed time at the pool. There are miles of paved bike paths along the island, so that was a really great activity that we both enjoyed.
