Episode 1 covered our ancient herbal traditions, with some wonderful, insightful input by experts like renowned herbalist Rosemary Gladstar along with Tieraona Low Dog, MC and Daniel Vitalis, host of the ReWild Yourself podcasts.

A shocker, for me, came in the segment about the AMA (American Medical Association). Back in the day, around 1840, when it said to layman practitioners “You must get licensed”, it blocked Native Americans, women and negroes (as the documentary says) who weren’t allowed to even apply for a licence!
Yet women, mainly, have long been the primary plant and herb gatherers – the carers and healers, the story-tellers, sharing how such and such a herb helped heal a certain ailment while they picked  herbs together (babies in tow").
